Happy Swiss National Day! Today, August 1st, is the day to celebrate everything we love about Switzerland! Here at Fermento Brewery, we are delighted to raise a glass of Swiss craft beer to honour this amazing country that has become our home. Today is a day to celebrate the Swiss Confederation and think about what makes Switzerland so special. So, let’s all raise our glasses to Switzerland!
Switzerland is the shining example of stability and peace! It has been a wonderfully stable country since 1499, which is fantastic news as it means that no war has been fought with a foreign government from that day! That’s absolutely fantastic and so well deserved!
Today, Switzerland is also a country bursting with great entrepreneurship! It’s an amazing place, full of warmth and opportunity, perfect for anyone who loves to work hard! It’s so great to see Swiss flags flying all over the place! We love it! You find some amazing things that make the country also really rich!
Did you know the Swiss are fond of beer? Swiss people might not be as well known for their love of beer as the Germans, but they still drink an average of 55 litres of beer per person every year. With approximately 9 million population you do the maths.

Fermento: A Heartfelt Thank You to Switzerland
We want to use this opportunity to express our deep gratitude to Switzerland. Thank you for being our home! Fermento Brewery would not exist if you had not welcomed us so warmly. If there was not so much entrepreneurship, our company would not exist. Now we are proud and we thank you for this today. At Fermento we’re incredibly grateful for the support and appreciation we’ve received since we started brewing swiss craft beer in this beautiful country. As a beer company we thank all the supporters.
Fermento: From Humble Beginnings to Swiss Craft Beer
A great short story on how everything begun and where we are now.
As it happens, destiny brought our founder Raffaele to Switzerland. With a job at a biotech company and many Italian and Spanish friends, living here has been always an amazing experience. Then, one Saturday afternoon, a good friend came with his home brewing kit, telling that his wife banned him from using it in their kitchen. Curious and excited, our founder volunteered their kitchen, and this is how it started: our weekend “fermenting adventures” together and with invaluable help from the dear Sara, a child with a strong will to help her daddy.
During these long afternoons of brewing and discussions about beer and life, the snacks were Pata Negra ham, and assorted cheese from Italy, Spain, and Switzerland. And that’s how Fermento discovered that our craft beer pairs perfectly well with fine meats and cheeses. Passion, patience, knowledge, friendship, and love for fine food has been the foundation for the creation of the Fermento Brewery beers.
With this passion, Fermento began in 2017, brewing beer for one restaurant in Solothurn, the iconic Mediterranee Leckerei. With hard work and quality of the beer, Fermento has been able to slowly get more popular around the area of Basel, serving the best gastronomic places in Basel and Oberwil. As we served, we have created a great beer for you!
We now give thanks to all the Swiss people for their appreciation for our quality and taste and our commitment to the quality and taste of Swiss craft beer. We are proud to see how people appreciate when we say “The Swiss craft beer with the Italian heart“! Cheers to Switzerland!
